July 17, 2008 -

Local 2019 needs you!!!  Read more on our Committee page.

Distracted Driving/New Hands Free Cell Phone Law goes into effect July 1, 2008.  Don't break the law!

Many of our represented classifications will be affected by this new law.  Our Construction Inspectors, Network Analysts, Field Services Representatives, Rangers, Water System Inspectors, Wastewater Control Inspectors, etc. using SUVs, Pickups, Vans, Sedans (vehicles that don’t require a Class A or B license) are prohibited from using their handheld wireless telephones or ‘push-to-talk’ feature while operating a motor vehicle.

If you receive a call or 'push-to-talk' request while driving you need to exit the roadway, park your vehicle and then respond to the call.

Do not use your personal hands free device...If the District wanted you to use one, they would have purchased one for you.

Let your leadership know if you're disciplined, counseled or spoken to about not responding to a call in a timely manner.  Again, the District has decided that hands-free devices are not warranted for District employees.

Please use our Confidential Feedback Form to raise your concerns, issues. etc.

Cafeteria Status -

As many of you are aware, the District cafeteria at the downtown administration building is closing on July 1, 2008.  As soon as we were made aware of this decision, Local 2019 requested a meet and confer to discuss this change in working conditions.  We are scheduled to meet with the District on July 9.  We've recently heard (although it's not formally confirmed) that the District is also planning on converting the cafeteria at the Adeline Maintenance Center to a Drought Contact Center.  Unfortunately, the District has the right to make business decisions, even bad ones, that they can unilaterally impose on the Local (much like the Outside Employment Policy).

Please use our Confidential Feedback Form to let your leadership know of any impacts, concerns, alternatives (vending machine selections, etc.), suggestions, etc. to address this change.

IT Technology Job Classification Status -

Local 2019 is scheduled to meet with the Management on July 14.  We last met with the District on May 1 to review the  questions and concerns provided by the Union.  Management indicated they needed time to review our issues and would provide feedback at a future meeting.  Senior Programmer Analyst Karen Yapp will be joining leadership at the table on July 14.  To review the list of issues and concerns or background regarding this negotiations click on the IT Technology Classifications link.

Please use our Confidential Feedback Form to raise your concerns, issues, suggestions, etc.

AVL (Automated Vehicle Locator) Status -

Management has informed Local 2019 that they intend on installing and activating AVL devices in vehicles operated by Local 2019 represented employees (starting with Customer and Community Services Field Services and Environmental Services Field Services).

Please use our Confidential Feedback Form to raise your concerns, issues, impacts, suggestions, etc.
